I visited the Outreach Center for the 13th time on the 25th of May, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Emily Crane and Rebecca Davidson. The main thing i did today was to help John to print out his work that he'd done on 2D-Design, but we experienced problems as it printed out too small or too big and when it was the right size it wouldn't work as the page margin was too big so instead of using Adobe Photoshop i used Paint as i know that you can change the size easier and from past experiences it is a lot easier to use. After printing it off succestully i then helped Marian to set up Spider Solitare as she couldn't remember how to. Then Martin arrived and i set up the DVD player for him as he wanted to watch Toy Story 3.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 12th time on the 11th of May, i went with 3 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring and Emily Crane. The first thing i did today was help set up all the computers and get the logged on and ready to use. The next thing i did was help Hazel set up her laptop and help her get started. This week was very quiet and not many people wen't so there wasn't much to do but we helped take orders for sandwhitches and then hand them out, this was a good task for us to do as we were able to learn the newer people's names and test ourselves when it came to giving them out.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 11th time on the 27th of April, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Emily Crane and Becky Davidson. The first thing i did today was help set up all the computers and also helped Hazel set up her computer and get her started with her e-mails. I then i helped helped people use movie maker and helped them add pictures and taught them how to add an effect on it so that it wouldn't just appear picture after picture but it will fade in or another effect.I also set up Martins DVD so that he would be able to watch his DVD.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 10th time on the 30th of March, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Emily Crane and Becky Davidson. The first thing i did today was help Cyril starting from the basics of just logging onto the computer as he doesn't have much experience with computers to he isn't familar with them enough to know how to do it. I then transfered his work that he did the week before onto his own memory stick as everyone has their own. after doing that i helped him learn how to then open up the files he had done by going through "my computer" and he then tried to do it on his own, opening up the files he did last lesson then he carried on with writting up his work and i went and helped Margret and Janet as they were experiencing problems with photoshop. Margret couldn't work out how to add the photos to her collage so i taught her that you double on the photo that she wanted to go on the bottom and then to drag the photos onto the background. and then Janet wasn't able to see the pictures that she wanted to add so i had to try and find out why it wasn't showing her them and it was because she didn't tick the box to show open files so then from then she could work out what she needed to do. And then i helped pack away the laptops as people started to leave.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 9th time on the 16th of March, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Emily Crane and Becky Davidson. The main thing i did today was help Derek use Microsoft Excell, he is familiar with the software from past experiences but wanted me to help in use it, i showed him how he could work out the money he had from a (not accurate) amount, then taking away the amount that he spent and then how much money he would have left. I also helped Eric as he was experiencing some troubles using Microsoft Word. And the end of the day i helped pack everything up.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 8th time on the 2nd of March, i went with 3 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring and Becky Davidson. The first thing i did was help Marjory and Hazel set up her computers. And then set up the rest of the computers, plugging them in, connecting the mouse and connecting them to the internet. for the majority of the time i was helping Peter to write out a paragraph which at first he struggled to find the letters but after a while he became more familiar with them and finished his work which he was really happy about. Eric also had some problems with his laptop as a he kept getting a pop up message so i told him that he just needed to press the x button and it would go. I also helped Dave crop a picture on paint as he didn't know how to, so i taught him how to. We also had a new member join today so we made him feel welcome. 

I visited the Outreach Center for the 7th time on the 9th of February, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Becky Davidson and Emily Crane. The main thing that i did was go into another room and watched a dvd explaining how to use photoshop as there are some people at outreach that want to use but don't know how to do certain things and as we also didn't know how to do anything as we aren't familiar with the software but Fiona and I went and watched the dvd as we should now be able to help them do simple tasks. I also helped Mayble set up her computer and then when she had finished i helped her close up her laptop.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 6th time on the 26th of Janruary, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Becky Davidson and Emily Crane. The main thing i had to do make cards on publisher for Peter and Eric as it was their birthday. After i had made them they were passed around the room for everyone to sign and at the end of the day i gave Eric his card. When Ian turned up i helped him to set up his laptop and got him started in word where he continued to do his work. I also sat with Martin and watched some of the film with him. After that Teresa asked me to make sure that everyone there had signed in and if they hadn't to ask them to.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 5th time on the 12th of Janruary, i went with 4 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring, Becky Davidson and Emily Crane. The main thing i had to do was to help make a plan for Margret as she was going to be using Movie Maker the following week, so i had to help her chose what photo's she woud be using in her 'Grandchildren' slide show and what effect she would be using. i also taught her how to make a picture, dragging the corner in but she usualy dragged the picture in from the side which made the photo thinner rather than smaller so she was glad that she now knew how to do it. Then i helped John to make a front cover for his calendar that he made the week before and i tought him how copy the picture and paste it to the word document. I also taught him how to add a header where he would put his name. I then hapled Heather and Mayble to use photoshop.

I visited the Outreach Center for the 4th time on the 15th of December, i went with 3 other people from my class, Fiona Lee, Hannah Pring and Becky Davidson. The main thing i had to do was to make a calendar for Jackie as she wasn't able to as she didn't have her memory stick so i had to get pictures of Barn Owls for her calendar as she likes Owls and i had to apply the pictures of barn owls onto the calendar and some of the pictures were the wrong shape so i added a black background so that i didn't need to stretch the picture out of shape. When Ian arrived i helped him to set up his computer. I also helped Anne make her calendar, teaching how to re-size the picture to fit into the box and how to insert the picture, she was putting her own pictures onto her calendar that were of her family.

i visted the Outreach Centre for the third time on the 23rd November 2010. i went with 4 other people from my class: Fiona Lee, Rebecca Davidson, Hannah Pring and Emily Crane.The first thing i had to do with Fiona was to set up Martins DVD as he would be watching 'The Dark Night' in that session and then i helped Margerie set up her laptop. I then went and sat with Mayble again and from the notes that i had writen for her two weeks before i watched her go on to marks and spencer website she then wanted to know the weather forecast so i helped her get onto BBC Weather where she found out the weather forecast for the week. after that i was asked to help a lady with photoshop as she was having trouble. And at the end i was asked to help a man who needed help saving his work.

I vistited the outreach centre for the second time on the 10th of November 2010. I went with 3 other people from my class, Rebecca Davidson, Hannah Pring and Emily Crane. The first task i had to do was help two people set up their laptop and get onto the internet. the task i had to do was just to get them familair with using the internet. I helped both Pat and Mayble use google translate which they were very impressed by, showing them how you can translate any word or phrase into another language. I then went on to helping Pat use google maps and showed her where her friend lives that she goes to visit on occastions and found it very useful as she always misses the turn in point. I then helped Mayble, who was 90 years old to look at websites which she would be interested in, first M&S and then BHS and she was also interesed in looking at sailsburry's website as that is where she used to live and she enjoyed seeing the pictures on the website.

Outreach Centre

The outreach centre was created to help the older generation impove and learn new computer skills, using a range of different softwares for example: adobe photoshop, microsoft word, microsoft puplisher and internet explorer. We did this because it gives us work experiance. Fiona and i visited the outreach centre at St Phillips Church on the 29th of September 2010. The main things that i helped with were: editing on adobe photoshop, helping with the layout on microsoft word and i also helped a lady called Stella send an email to her daughter and taught her how to attatch a photo to the message and helped her with any troubles she came across. I found this to be a very good experience, because as as well as teaching them to do things that i already knew how to do i also learnt new skill along the way and i my teaching skills have been further developed.
